To promote the development of high-quality pre-school education, Jiangsu province is the first region to issue a regulation that dictates schooling standards and management structures. This regulation facilitates the development of private kindergartens and serves as quality assurance for pre-school education.
Considering that many young parents of rural areas seasonally migrate to big cities for work and miss out on big periods of their kids growing up, the kindergarten that we designed is meant to be a place that resembles a home, a small-scale cluster of buildings that functions as smaller, slightly modified version of a village. The scale and materials of the facade give the kids a sense of familiarity while the interesting building relationships introduce novelty and encourage curiosity.
Since they were built, the kindergartens became a gathering place for the village community where grandparents and parents gather not only to collect their children after school but to actively participate in diverse group events.
